ASD UNIT
November 12th was a memorable day for Scoil Muire & Padraig as it marked the opening of the Autism Spectrum Disorder Unit in the school. The school was honoured by the presence of the Tanáiste Mary Coughlan, Minister of Education & Skills who performed the official opening and the blessing was administered by Fr Stephen O'Mahony, Chairman of the Board of Management.
The school is indebted to the Mercy Order who leased their property to the school in order to provide the ASD Unit. The funding was provided by the Department of Education and Skills and the school wishes to acknowledge the work of the contractor Mr John O'Malley and Paulo Baraldini who acted as Project Manger on behalf of Taylor Architects.
Members of the Board of Management and Trustees along with the families of those who will benefit from the facility joined the school in celebrating an auspicious day. The Board wishes to record a special thanks to Mr John Culhane SENO for his ongoing commitment to this project and to the wider special needs interests of the school.
The school was honoured with the presence of many local political dignitaries and with that of the Bishop of Achonry Brendan Kelly. Mr Carney, school principal, hosted the event and Caroline Timlin who is the head teacher in the Unit expressed her happiness that the quest to provide the facility had at last come to fruition.
The sun shone, spirits soared and a sense of hope and optimism prevailed.
