Learning Support Department


1. Aims :


  • Identification and evaluation of strengths and needs of students
  • Structure a curriculum suitable for the students
  • Integration of students in mainstream school life, socially and academically.



2. Objectives :

  • Help to develop thinking skills eg. analysing, observing, evaluating, summarising and problem-solving in the students
  • Enable students to learn other skills such as researching, information-handling, self-assessment and target setting
  • Help students to develop social and personal skills eg. self-awareness, teamwork, making choices and taking responsibility
  • Enable students to learn communication skills eg. listening, speaking and responding appropriately.


There are two teachers permanently involved in co-ordinating and providing Learning Support, who together with a number of other teachers from the staff, provide this much-needed service in the school. Having received parental approval Learning Support teachers may withdraw students from some regular classes to work with them in small groups.

The school is also fortunate to have a number of Special Needs Assistants assigned to it to help students with special educational needs. They work predominantly in the Autism Unit.
