Girls U-14 Gaelic Football : Swinford v Ballaghadereen.
Scoil Muire agus Padraig Swinford had a well-deserved win over St. Nathy's College Ballaghadereen in the U-14 Girls recently. The Swinford girls got off to a great start by scoring 2-4 in the first ten minutes but the St.Nathy's girls battled their way back into the match and halftime came at just the right time for Swinford with the scores nicely poised at 4-6 for Swinford and 3-2 for Ballaghadeereen. As the second half progressed the Swinford girls proved too strong overall. Though St. Nathy's put up a great fight Swinford's midfield pairing won most of the breaking ball and the Swinford 15 worked very hard for each other all over the field. They pulled away to win at the final whistle by 8-11 to 5-5 with Swinford's Roisin Durkin being the top scorer with five goals. The Swinford girls now face St Joseph's Castlebar in a preliminary round in order to reach the Quarter Finals of the competition.
